Located in Kayah state Myanmar just over 50 km from the border with Thailand.
The journey starts with a boat trip across the Moei river.

Once at the Pier on the Myanmar side it is a 1.5 hour drive through really rough and narrow mountainous roads, wide enough for a single vehicle and hairpin turns with huge potholes. People driving like maniacs.
The hairpin turns are endless as is the occasional surprise of an on coming vehicle taking the same line. Both vehicles dart to the right and end up crashing through potholes and off the edge of the road, thankfully not going over the edge of the mountain road.
There are no crash barriers, it would literally be over the edge of the mountain.

After the crazy ride through the mountain roads. I spot the condition of the rear tyre.
This guy better buy some more amulets if he isn’t going to change it soon.
Stop for a feed and beer. Wasn’t bad at all to be honest. Better than I was expecting.
A little surprised to see Myanmar Beer (Junta owned company) for sale. As much as I like that beer. I boycotted it as don’t want to fund in any way the Generals. Even if it is only a few cents.
On the way back to the border. There is the most spectacular waterfall to visit.
The town entry, only a kilometre or so and you are back at the pier and the border with Thailand.

This area is relatively safe and under the total control of the KNU.
You will pass through multiple checkpoints with no issue.
A local Karen from Mae Tawao must accompany you, not on your own.

Since this trip. The security situation has deteriorated. It is very tense on the other side of the border with allegiances by the BGF changing along with fighting further south in and around Myawaddy.
